Colander is a proven show jumping sire with modern characteristics and comes from a long line of champions with a Holstein pedigree. He demonstrates the outstanding wide-ranging sporting capabilities of his pedigree by combining three paces of exceptional quality with capital jumping ability.

His sire Contender was the most valuable asset of the Holstein Stud Book: no other stallion of the association has impressed as much in terms of breeding and sports and left such a diverse progeny. Many of Contender’s offspring are true all-rounders when it comes to type, the three paces, rideability and jumping ability.

Contender’s Hanoverian son Checkmate (under Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum) was the most successful German show jumper of the 2006 season. The licensed son and Dutch stallion Montender was individual bronze medal winner under Marco Kutscher in Athens in 2004 and won both the individual and the team European Championships in San Patrignano in 2005. Contender also sired Cubito, who was the Holstein licensing champion stallion in 2006.

Colander’s dam Holsatia III was covered by Contender several times and produced the competition horses Cosmo 22 and American Beauty (by Acorado I) and many others. American Beauty took part in the Elite Mare Show in Elmshorn and was awarded the State Premium.

From today’s perspective, the dam’s sire Landgraf I was the most successful show jumping sire of all time. The best of his progeny include Taggi (Sören von Rönne), the licensed stallion Libero H (under Jos Lansink, World Cup winner in 1994), Leandra 17 and Lucky Luke (Otto Becker), Lovely Boy 16 (Norbert Koof), Lagretto (Carsten-Otto Nagel), Lassandro (Sören von Rönne), Landega (Helena Weinberg) and many more who have won over €4.4 million to date.

He has sired over 100 stallions. The valuable stallion Caletto II is the father of the Olympic champion Classic Touch (Ludger Beerbaum) and was Holstein licensing champion stallion in 1980. The great thoroughbred Marlon xx, who also counted among the most influential stallions in Holstein, completes the pedigree.

The well-thought-out inbreeding component over the line-founding stallions Corde and Ladykiller xx in the third and fourth generations is of particular note. Apart from Colander, line 1228 also produced the sires Codex (Belgium) und Nebelstern (state stud stallion at Traventhal).

Colander finished his 30-day test in Neustadt/Dosse in 2001 with high marks and completed the sports performance requirements for licensed stallions with multiple qualifications for the Warendorf Championships for German Show Jumpers. He also qualified for the World Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken. He won numerous show jumping competitions and was later victorious and highly placed up to advanced level. His very first crop produced four licensed sons.

He also sired the top foals at the A.O.S. auctions in Ankum twice in a row. His oldest offspring have made great sporting achievements with wins and high placements in show jumping competitions. They have also been successful at several Warendorf Championships and enjoyed some first successes at advanced level.

Colander ranks among the top 5% of all stallions in Germany according to the FN Breeding Value Index.
